Operator Call Errors

Service Call Errors
  • Cycles of blinking in orange and green: 7 times
  • Error: Ink absorber full
  • Error code: Japan: [5B00], Others: [5B01]
  • Conditions: The ink absorber becomes full.
Solution: Reset the printer
Reset Canon Pixma MP490 or MP496 Printer When Receiving "Ink Absorber Full" Error [5B00] [5B01]
Before proceeding with the reset, the printer must be in Service Mode.

Step 1 - Enter Service Mode
To enter Service Mode, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Press and hold the STOP/RESET button
  3. Press and hold the ON button (do not release either button)
  4. Release the STOP/RESET button (keep holding the ON button)
  5. While holding the ON button, press the STOP/RESET button twice, then release both the ON and STOP/RESET buttons simultaneously.
Note: If the Power LED turns green and the machine displays "Service Mode Idle" on the LCD, it means the printer has successfully entered Service Mode. If the LED doesn't turn green, repeat the steps above.
Step 2 - Reset Ink Absorber Full Error [5B00] [5B01]
  1. Download Service Tool v.1050
  2. Extract the file and open the Service Tool. If you can't open the tool, unplug the USB cable and try again. Re-connect the cable after the tool has been opened.
  3. Load A4 or Letter paper.
  4. Select USB Port (1)
  5. Click EEPROM information print before resetting (2) for reference
  6. Click MAIN (3) to clear the Ink Counter. Wait for the printer to finish printing D=000.0, which indicates the ink absorber counter has been reset to zero.
  7. Choose the destination region: ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, USA (4), then click SET (5).
  8. Click EEPROM information print once more after resetting (1) and compare the value of D (waste ink amount) before and after resetting.
  9. Close the Service Tool if the reset was successful.
  10. Turn off the printer (wait 10 seconds)
  11. Turn on the printer and it should be ready to use.
